Odour Sampling Bags

Odour sampling bags are the bags used to collect odour samples to be measured by olfactomer in the laboratory.

In order for odour samples to be not contaminated and stable in odour concentration, odour sampling bags must meet the following requirements:

  • The bag material must be odour free.
  • The bag material must be non-polar without absorbing or reacting with the odorous gases.
  • The bags must be sufficiently impervious to prevent any significant loss of odour compounds between the time of collection and the time of olfactometry measurement, which can be a period of up to 24 hours.
  • The bags must be reasonably robust in case of cracking or squashing during the transportation.
  • The seals of bags must be leak-free.
  • The bags should have sufficient volumetric capacity for the samples to be measured.

The most frequently used odour sampling bags are made with Teflon, Tedlar or Nalophan.

No matter what material the bags are made with, it is not recommended any used odour sampling bags being reused.
